Well talk about not getting a rest since the Olympics! It’s been one personal appearance after another, although I’ve enjoyed every moment of it. Earlier this month I went to Your Horse Live, where Charlotte and I did a dressage masterclass. After that it was off to the Spanish Riding School where Charlotte, Lee Pearson and I opened the show. I took Uthopia because he has a large fan base and it’s nice for the people who couldn’t make the Olympic Games to come and see him. Then most recently I did the National Dressage Convention at Hartpury College. I was quite nervous about it, but feedback suggests people really enjoyed it, and they seemed thrilled to see Charlotte and Valegro there, too.

“I’ve said a few goodbyes to some of my old equine partners this month, too. On a happy note, my ex-Olympic friend Escapado went off to take residency with his former groom, Caroline Dawson. When Caroline worked for me, Escapado was her firm favourite and in fact when he was sold, she didn’t speak to me for weeks! Now Caroline and Peanuts are back together and I’m thrilled for them both.

“On a sadder note, poor Donnersong (a Grand Prix horse I rode several years ago) passed away this month. My thoughts go out to his owner Kate Carter and I remember fondly what a great horse he was. I was so lucky to have been given the chance to ride him and I thank him for teaching me so much along the way.
